Bundaberg Street Law is staffed by dedicated volunteers who are committed to providing free legal assistance to those in need. As we balance our volunteer work with other commitments, we may not always be able to answer your call or respond to your email immediately. However, we strive to respond to all inquiries as promptly as possible. Your patience and understanding are greatly appreciated as we work to serve our community.
We strive to build a just and inclusive society that recognises the rights of all people to the social and economic resources they need to exercise their human rights. We focus on increasing access to justice, reducing homelessness, improving quality of life, decreasing isolation, increasing safety and building awareness of resources and options for those in need.
Our History

Recognising this gap in services, BSL began as a pilot initiative in January 2022, offering pro bono legal outreach clinics. The focus was on serving those experiencing or at risk of homelessness, with a particular emphasis on women who are victim-survivors of domestic and family violence. The initial six-month pilot, funded under the Investing in Queensland Women (IIQW) grant program, exceeded expectations.
Building on this success, BSL secured further funding through the Keeping Women Safe (KWS) grant program, enabling continued operation and expansion. This support enhanced BSL’s operational capacity, allowing for the implementation of a client management system and the establishment of a dedicated office at 11 Electra St, co-located with Andy’s Place.
In 2023 BSL was nominated for an award in the community services category in the Bundaberg Chamber of Commerce Business Excellence Awards.BSL also forged a partnership with the Central Queensland University (CQU) Law Faculty, hosting its first student legal practicum placement in 2024.
On 1 July 2024, BSL achieved a significant milestone by gaining approval from the Queensland Law Society as an Independent Legal Practice, marking a new chapter in its ability to address the ongoing need for equitable access to justice in the Bundaberg community. True to its original intent, BSL continues to provide pro bono legal services to the homeless and/or at risk of homelessness in the Bundaberg region. Face to face legal clinics are held weekly,
Bundaberg Street Law (BSL) emerged in response to a critical need exposed during the COVID-19 pandemic. The crisis revealed the inequitable access to justice experienced by people facing or at risk of homelessness in the Bundaberg community. This unmet need became the catalyst for BSL’s formation.
